RIH Sport

"...RIH Sport. Founded in 1921 by Joop and Willem Bustraan, Rih is the name of a black Arabian stallion featured in popular novels by German wild-west writer Karl May, ridden by his hero Kara ben Nemsi. Rih means “faster than the wind” in Arabic. Situated on Westerstraat since 1928, RIH Sport is currently owned by Wim van der Kaaij, who joined RIH business as an apprentice frame builder in 1948. RIH frames have been ridden to a multitude of World and Olympic titles over their long and rich history; and today, the genial Mr. van der Kaaij is still building beautiful old school steel framesets, “usually two per week” he explained. “It takes time to do it right; we still make these bikes by hand and I’m not getting any younger.” Van der Kaaij is still in touch with the sport, as he and a group of fifty friends were slated to attend the World Track Championship in Mallorca to support the Dutch National team, for which RIH Sport was the official supplier for many years."
