Joseph Beuys

German-born artist (1921-1986), active in Europe and United States, loosely associated with Fluxus.

His oeuvre diverse from traditional media of drawing, painting and sculpture, to process oriented or time based "action" art,
Beuys described his artworks as "social sculpture". He was engaging his audience in provocative, unprecedented ways, calling upon art to be genuinely human medium for revolutionary change.

Artist is especially famous for works incorporating animals fat and felt, which had profound personal meaning to the artist.
