Pièce de Résistance

Laboratory of stories and objects of resistance

24 Apr 2011
28 Aug 2011

How do we remember and relate the protests on Cairo's Tahrir Square? Which objects trigger memories of the February Strike in Amsterdam? What do the stories circulating about Nelson Mandela's ANC tell us? And what about our own Nieuwmarkt riots? How do we write and remember history?

Mediamatic and Partizan Publik are creating a marketplace, workshop and exhibition space for personal stories and objects of resistance. An accumulating collection of anecdotes and relics from World War II to now, from in- and outside The Netherlands. Become a researcher yourself and contribute to the expanding archive of stories and objects. Find out more about the PdR Laboratory here.

Journalists, TV producers, artists and activists will give masterclasses, workshops and readings. During film screenings and other events we’ll further investigate the notion of resistance.

Explore the exciting ways in which artworks can tell stories. Discover your own Pièce de Résistance, the personal experiences and family stories that remind you of oppression and resistance. Which rebellious streak can you discover in an object? What artifacts and stories make you defiant? Answer these and other questions in the Pièce de Résistance laboratory.

The stories and objects will be collected on this website, and on the websites of the Amsterdam 4 and 5 May committee, the Jewish Historical Museum and the National Historical Museum. Together we'll create an extensive resistance archive.
