Partners

The following organisations and partners contributed to Paddestoelen Paradijs

These are the organisations and partners that have been contributing their time, materials, and knowledge resources to the Paddestoelen Paradijs exhibition.

CNC Exotic Mushrooms

At CNC Exotic Mushrooms we are working with Bert Rademakers, who is the director of CNC. He manufactures the substrate used to grow a huge variety of exotic mushrooms. He provided us with the substrate for all the varieties of mushrooms that we have growing in the exhibition space at Mediamatic. He has also given us a wealth of knowledge about every step of the mushroom cultivation process, from inoculating the substrate to harvesting the mushrooms, and everything inbetween.

Casa Foresta

Edwin Florès of Casa Foresta is a mushroom expert in every sense; he forages for mushrooms in the forest, but also knows everything about growing mushrooms at home. Edwin has been assisting us in building and maintaining our urban mushroom farm by providing invaluable advice and coming into our space once a week to check up on the progress of our mushrooms.

Mark Janssen

Mark Janssen is an amateur mycologist who can be found foraging for wild mushrooms in the forests of northern Europe. He has written a number of books on how to identify edible mushrooms in the wild and how to cook delicious meals with them. Mark has helped us find other amateur mycologists and has helped us build our library by lending out his mushroom book collection to us. More information about Mark, his books, and his mushroom excursions can be found on his website.

Mycelia

Mycelia was founded in 1985 by mycologist Magda Verfaillie. In a first stage she started a small size spawn laboratory as a center for spawn research on a university level, containing a small spawn production unit. In a second stage in 1990, a larger spawn laboratory was set up which had a production capacity of 15.000 liters (ca. 12 tonnes) of spawn per week. In 2008, Mycelia moved to the actual production site in Nevele, which has a production capacity of 30.000 liters (ca. 24 tonnes) of spawn per week.
Magda Verfaillie advised us about the cleanroom. Mycelia also supplies the substrate bags with various types of mushrooms and clean room supplies.

Plant Research International at Wageningen University

Johan Baars is part of the plant research department at the University of Wageningen. He has done research into the medicinal properties of mushrooms and other forms of fungus. Johan has provided us with helpful contacts for individuals working within this field and will be speaking at our upcoming salon on the medicinal and poisonous properties of mushrooms. Find our more about the salon here. More information about the mushroom department of the research facility can be found here
