Instead of an economically responsible party, we gave an excessive Over Datum Eetclub for our final hurrah. The food was expired and carefully prepared into a delicious dinner by chef Mario Alfons. The tables were richly covered with candles and beautiful tableware. The live music of Bird on the Wire filled the space and our guests definitely dressed up for this festive occasion. It almost didn't look like an action against food waste anymore, but that was farthest from the truth.
Mario Alfons works as a sous chef at restaurant Pont 13. For one night only he graciously exchanged his top notch kitchen for our Mediamatic kitchen filled with expired products. Mario began preparing dinner hours before the guests arrived, willing to make the best Over Datum Christmas dinner ever. The guests gave a helping hand when they arrived in order to bring it all together and the results were absolutely delicious.
We started with bruschetta and Mediamatic King Oyster mushrooms and a delicious mushroom ragout on an endive leaf. Next, we enjoyed cups full of fish soup, followed by the maincourse: endive stew accompanied by game stew, garnished with broccoli and tomato. For dessert, we had a chocolate-banana cake with white chocolate and coffee spiked sauce.
In the meanwhile, the band Bird on the Wire played their dreamy melodies, incorporating christmas bells especially for this occasion. The conclusion can be drawn that the evening was quite the success and that our expired products provided the perfect foundation for cooking a delicious meal and brewing up some healthy activism around food waste.
