A relic of a post-future, the hot air balloon once stood for pioneering: the first object that allowed mankind to travel through the sky. For the fourth New Order exhibition, the balloon becomes a showcase for adaptive architecture. DUS architects' Mind Igloo consists of two redundant hot air balloons, transformed into a giant igloo-like space, gently breathing like a habitable lung. Inhale, exhale, and sense the collective consciousness.
What if our homes could just pop-up when and wherever we need them? And disappear when not in use? The world imagined in New Order is populated by breathing buildings, celebrating human activity by generating, and relying upon, social energy to stay inflated. The Mind Igloo explores the need to create new social spaces through collective thinking, combining your private digital world with a physical shared experience. Visitors of Mind Igloo are invited to contribute pictures from their smartphones to a communal projection. Are you ready to immerse yourself in a new public intimacy?
The weekend of Saturday April 14 & Sunday April 15 we have a bubble movie screening inside DUS architects' Mind Igloo. Pick your spot in the giant balloon, get comfortable and enjoy the film. DUS architects' manifesto sports the lines: "Do the unthinkable. Build a manifest, write a building". DUS was founded in 2004 by Hedwig Heinsman, Martine de Wit, and Hans Vermeulen. DUS builds ‘public architecture’: architecture that influences the public domain using scale 1:1 models, urban processes, and strategy design. Think anything from temporary interiors to long-term urban transformation trajectories. Visit their website.
New Order explores a world in which energy has become a fundamental principle of our society. Five consecutive solo shows feature new works by Dutch- and international artists, designers, and architects, each responding to various elements of society - such as politics, economy, health, food and experience - that together combine to outline a complete future world.
