Farm Fountain, an unusual aquaponics system
Art and science together for a better way of life
Farm Fountain is a small ecosystem that allows you to have fresh food grown right at home.
An interesting example of Aquaponics system is Farm Fountain, a project realized by the artist Ken Rinaldo and Amy Young in 2009. Sustainability and recycling are the key words: made out of used soda bottles as planters, the artwork utilizes aquaponics system to create an unusual indoor hanging garden with edible plants and ornamental fishes.
The process is completely sustainable in each one of its step: thanks to natural bacteria, fish waste is turned into plant nutrients, while plants purify water for the fishes. Besides, the entire structure can use solar power to feed the grow light used for the hanging garden.
In the web page of the project you can find step by step instructions to build your own Farm Fountain.
