Three short stories published in 1907.
When these three stories were published Hesse was already a well-known author. Previously he wrote Peter Camenzind which encouraged him to become a full-time writer. These stories have their own subtle atmosphere and melodic and impressionistic method of storytelling. So every story is different from one another. Hesse melancholically and ironically reminisces about his childhood memories and events. For example, his first crush but also his first introduction with death. Everything he writes about heightens the contradictions and main story lines in a human life.
