Born in 1971, Shafi’i has been making documentary films in and outside of Afghanistan for the last 9 years. He completed his education at Baagh Ferdaws Islamic Filmmaking Center in 1999 in Iran, and additionally attended a film production course in the Netherlands.
Coming back to Afghanistan after 20 years of exile, it is five years he has been living in Kabul, where he launched the Afghanistan Cinema Club (BASA). He also worked as a senior advisor for the Radio Television of Afghanistan.
He has made about 30 films; some of them received international film awards from different countries. Up to the parliament (2005), Drought in Hazarajat (2003), Pamir Territory (2003), and End of the Earth (2001) is the filmmaker’s most renowned works.
Shafi’I worked as Jury member of Tolo TV Film festival for three years, Kabul Film Festival First and Amnesty award of CPH-DOX (Copenhagen Documentary Film Festival)
