Manga, Samurai, Yakuza action - Japanese film is about more than a bunch of slashing good-for-nothing freaks. The Dejima Filmfestival in Amsterdam presents the latest of Japanese Cinema in a tiny, focussed showreel.

A festival with just 8 films would normally not deserve the name, but Dejima shows, what a festival is really about – the films.
Among the contributions are BLOOD AND BONES, a family drama about Korean immigrants (starring Takeshi Kitano), TONY TAKITANI, a reflection on loneliness and fate, and KAMIKAZE GIRLS, a furious trip of Lolita-avenging angels infused with the gore of Japanese pop culture (among others).

On Saturday night there will be a Panel discussion on the current Japanese Film starring Tony Rayns, best known promoter of Japanese Film in the West and film critic Tom Mes of Midnighteye.com.
