I studied art history and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and received my doctorate in 2007 for a dissertation on the word-image relationship in the visual arts of the 1960s. Having taught in the art history department and in media studies at the University of Amsterdam, I have recently been appointed head of collections at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In 2006 I organised the lecture series Right about Now: Art and Theory since the 1990s (in cooperation with the University of Amsterdam, W139, the Stedelijk Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam). The accompanying publication, which I co-edited, was published by Valiz in 2007; a second edition was published in 2008. In the winter of 2008/2009 I co-organised a new lecture series under the title Now is the Time: Art and Theory in the 21st Century. The accompanying publication just appeared with Nai Publishers.
