<p>Industrieel erfgoed op het Oostenburgereiland (Oostenburg) in Amsterdam, in handen van Stadgenoot. Vanaf december 2011 is hier ook <a href="/243574">Mediamatic Fabriek</a> gevestigd.</p>

<p>De Stork Werkspoorhallen zijn ontworpen door Architect Van Gendt en vormden een belangrijk onderdeel van de fabriek van Werkspoor-Stork op Oostenburg in Amsterdam. De gebouwen hebben de status van rijksmonument.</p> <p>De vijf geschakelde hallen zijn in verschillende fases gebouwd van 1898 tot 1910. Ze begonnen als deel van de “Nederlandse Fabriek van Werktuigen en Spoorwegmaterieel” en werden gebouwd na aanvaarding van een order van 40 locomotieven en 400 wagons voor de spoorwegen van Zuid–Afrika.</p> <p>In 2012 bieden ze onderdak aan Mediamatic Fabriek, Hans Ubbink, Stormer Marine, en een Lasergames arena. Na de slagboom is door middel van borden duidelijk aangegeven hoe je bij Lasercity Amsterdam komt, wij zitten er naast.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Tram 26 (richting IJburg), halte Rietlandpark. Vanaf de halte steek de je de Piet Hein Kade over, dan onder het spoor door, daarna meteen rechts. Je ziet dan voor je het toegangshek van het parkeerterrein (dit is net voorbij de Conradstraat). Na het hek loop je naar de slagboom. <p>Oostenburgeiland has a rich history, but an even more exciting future. These organisations are working with Stadgenoot to transform the forgotten island into an urban oasis.</p>

<p>By the mid seventeenth century the Amsterdam shipping wharf was in dire need of expansion. Three bits of land (Kattenburg, Wittenburg, and Oostenburg) in the east of Amsterdam were reclaimed to house the expanding industry. The Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie moved to Oostenburg, but by 1800 they had gone bankrupt. The shipping halls, designed by architecture firm Van Gendt, were refurnished to be used for the production of locomotives, train carriages, and diesel motors. This activity ceased in 2000, leaving the five big halls and associated buildings vacant. Stadgenoot, the current owner of the Van Gendthallen, has since been exploring new ways of using the old buildings. In collaboration with organizations and businesses that aren't afraid of experiment and risk. </p> <p>In 2011 <em>Rosa &amp; Rita</em> served its first steaks and pizzas on Oostenburg. Situated in a building on the Conradstraat that used to house the bathing- and dining facilities for the workers, Rosa &amp; Rita was named after two Shell tankers that were assembled on Oostenburg. </p> <p>A few months later club and cafe <em>Amsterdam Roest</em> opened its doors, occupying one of the large shipping halls and the former Koud Gas Gebouw, where they used to generate energy.</p> <p>Moving into two of the Van Gendt halls, Mediamatic kicked-off its residency on Oostenburg with the <a href="/241384">Schommelclub</a>, six giant swings hanging from the 16 meter high roof. <p>Het Oostenburgereiland kent niet alleen een rijke geschiedenis, maar staat ook een explosieve toekomst te wachten. Deze organisaties werken samen met Stadgenoot om van het vergeten eiland een stedelijke oase te maken.</p>

<p>Halverwege de zeventiende eeuw barstten de Amsterdamse werven uit hun voegen. Drie stukken land (Kattenburg, Wittenburg en Oostenburg) in het oosten van Amsterdam werden ontgonnen om plek te bieden aan de snelgroeiende industrie. De VOC verhuisde naar Oostenburg, maar tegen 1800 verklaarde de compagnie zich failliet. De fabriekshallen, ontworpen door architectenbureau Van Gendt, werden heringericht om te kunnen worden gebruikt voor de productie van locomotieven, treinstellen en dieselmotoren. Deze activiteiten kwamen tot een halt in 2000, waarna de vijf grote fabriekshallen en aanverwante gebouwen leeg kwamen te staan. Stadgenoot, de huidige eigenaar van de Van Gendthallen, onderzoekt sindsdien op welke manieren de oude gebouwen nieuw leven kan worden ingeblazen. In samenwerking met organisaties en bedrijven die het experiment niet uit de weg gaan. </p> <p>In 2011 serveerde <em>Rosa &amp; Rita</em> vanuit het 'schaft en was'-gebouw op de Conradstraat haar eerste steaks en pizza's. Rosa &amp; Rita is vernoemd naar twee tankers die op het Oostenburgereiland in elkaar zijn gezet. </p> <p>Een paar maanden later nam club en cafe <em>Amsterdam Roest</em> haar intrek in een van de grote fabriekshallen en in het voormalige Koud Gas Gebouw, waar vroeger energie werd opgewekt.</p> <p>In december 2011 hing Mediamatic 6 schommels van de 16 meter hoge dakconstructie en markeerde daarmee het begin van een periode van experiment en spel in twee van de grote fabriekshallen.
