Prototype Dev Camp @ STRP Festival

An inspiring week of hacking, developing and innovation.

For the fourth year in a row, Mediamatic is organizing an edgy and innovative hacker camp. This year we'll be working together with STRP Festival in Eindhoven. The Hacker Camp explores various recent technologies like RFID, physical computing and social networking, but also looks into aspects of interaction design and interactive processes.

What?

The aim of the camp is to realize engaging, interactive installations, spaces, places and projects (wearables, games, etc.) within 5 days, for the visitors of the STRP festival to play with. Besides focusing on the social use of RFID, STRP and our camp are particularly interested in artistic approaches to neurosciences (bio-feedback, data-visualization, bio-mapping, EEG, etc.).

Each year we invite around thirty knowledgeable and skilled people to join us, guaranteeing an inspiring experience. The level of the participants is high. They have divers backgrounds, ensuring a good mix of skills. From programmers to interaction designers, and from industrial designers to graphic know-it-all's. Together we create and build fascinating projects (and have lots of fun). We have all the electronics you can dream of, lots of RFID tags and readers, every possible Arduino, a big variety of sensors, and plenty more. It's truly a massive geek paradise.

STRP Festival

The festival we work with this year is STRP. This is one of the largest art and technology events in Europe. The mix of technology, art and music makes it a one of a kind experience. STRP is located in Eindhoven, the most important city of The Netherlands for design and technology. Philips is based there, as well as the Technical University and the Design Academy. They will be present at our camp as well.

Set-up camp

Our camp will start simultaneously with the festival, on November 18. In 5 days we will turn great ideas into realistic projects! Everything has to be up and running within 5 days. That means on November 23 the projects have to be bug-free and ready to be played.

Participate?

We select the participants ourselves, but if you think you have what it takes to participate as well, you can apply by sending your resumé and portfolio to . After we receive your application it will be scrutinized by our team and we'll get back to you a couple of weeks later.

If you want to participate you have to be skilled in some of the following areas: programming, soft- and hardware development, robotics, artificial intelligence, interaction- and product design. But we might also need people with other creative and artistic approaches, like artists, graphic designers (with knowledge of CSS, Ajax, etc.) and web designers. If you want to join us without getting invited you are subject to the workshop fee of € 1250 incl. VAT.
