Construction time #3

Mediamatic RFID & Physical Computing Hackers Camp @ Picnic 07

Tomorrow at 9 AM the projects need to be ready for PICNIC 07. It's past midnight and it looks like we're going to be here for a while. We do feel at home at our new location though.

This project is finished! It's the Friend Drink Station, which was on PICNIC 06 as well. The Friend Drink Station gives out free beers! If you connect with someone using your RFID tagged badges, the machine will print out a coupon. The coupon is only valid for free beer when you pick it up at the bar with your new friend.

Finished!

Although it's not part of the hackers camp, it has RFID and Andy did most of the programming. Similar software is used for other projects such as the Photo Booth and Connection Cushion. This is how it looks from the inside:

The Connection Cushion is almost finished! Nadya did some beautiful stitching. The soft cushion vibrates and produces sound when two people get connected. It only needs to be connected to the database. Johannes is working on that.

Melanie is really happy with her rogue agent outfit. She's fully equipped and ready to scan you with her glove for hidden tags. How many tags do you think you have?

Data Traces has been renamed iTea. Don worked really hard today on the coffee table to make it pretty and working. Dirk redesigned the visuals. The test drive of the table looks really beautiful. Erik thought he only had to do some tweaking on the code, but a few hours ago there seemed to be something wrong. Fortunately the problem is solved.

Photo Booth has it's first picture! Look at the result:

Timo and Einar worked to 6 o'clock this morning to get the booth constructed. They made nice exploded views of the booth to plan the whole building process.

And worked till it was finished.

Building it

Anne and I painted the booth when we got in this morning. And repainted the booth a second time in the afternoon. The screens and camera are now being mounted on the booth.

Jørn had to do some serious coding to get the pictures taken from the booth automatically uploaded to Flickr. In the end he solved the problem, but it wasn't always easy.

troubles

Luckily we had great take away from Mother India. Computer shut for 15 minutes and enjoy!
