3D character designer, Soynewoto and projectmanager Imagine Identity and Culture.

Evelyn Raat, 3D character designer @ Soynewoto and projectmanager at Imagine Identity and Culture, projectleader of Multiple M, head of the education department at Imagine IC, in charge of the youthprogramms, organizing exhibitions and inviting people to represent themselves aswell as asking them for their opinions about- and their experiences with urban (sub-)culture and present trends, by using new media.

Evelyn started out in 2000 with ‘2 worlds, 3 generations’, an oral history / photography project about three generations of women in Indonesia, China and The Netherlands. During her research in China she worked with photographer Yee Ling Tang on an oral history project called ‘A Wondrous Reunion’, about the lives of two elderly, homeless ladies in the streets of Hong Kong. Back in The Netherlands she did a third project called ‘Asian Party’, another oral history / photography project about Asian subcultures in Dutch nightlife.

My stay in China made me realize how important it is to me to live in a multicultural society. Though China was beautiful and interesting I couldn’t help feeling completely out of place in a monoculture. To me, working at Imagine IC is the perfect way of combining my extreme curiosity towards people and the way they experience things and making interesting exhibitions or displays about multicultural urban society. The Chain Diary is our latest storytelling tool and virtual platform, especially designed for the collection of new, young, urban stories worldwide.
