Annelys de Vet (1974 — works in Brussels and Amsterdam) is a graphic designer and head of the design department of the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam (Masters Rietveld Academie). Her work explores the role of design in relation to the public and political discourse.
De Vet earned her BFA in 1997 at the HKU (NL), MFA in 1999 at the Sandberg Institute (NL) and studied Sculpture at the RMIT, Melbourne (1999-2000). Since 1997 she runs her own studio, which has transformed from a practice working for clients like Thames & Hudson, Stedelijk Museum, Droog Design and KPN, towards a self-directed practice where De Vet, among others, published several books concerning the representation of cultural and national identity: ‘The subjective atlas of the EU, from an Estonion point of view’ (Tallinn, 2004), ‘Subjectieve atlas van Nederland’ (BIS publishers, 2005), ‘The public role of the graphic designer’ (Design Academy Eindhoven, 2006), ‘Subjective atlas of Palestine’ (010 Publishers, 2007), ‘Subjective atlas of Serbia’ (Dom Omladine, 2009). Currently she is working on ‘Subjective atlas of Mexcio’ (Textofilia, 2011) and ‘Subjective atlas of Hungary’ (HVG, 2011).

De Vet was the initiator and designer of the yearly ‘(Con)Temporary Museum Amsterdam’ (2006–2009) which covered the side program of the artfair Art Amsterdam. She was a lecturor and coordinator at the ‘Man & Communication’ department at the Design Academy Eindhoven (2002–2008). Since 2010 she’s head of the Masterclass Mediafonds@Sandberg. She publishes regularly articles on design and her work has been awarded for the ‘best designed books 2007’, shortlisted for Designprijs Rotterdam and shown in several national and international musea.
