My arts practice is cross disciplinary: primarily performative with sculpture, installation and photography as complimentary means of expression. Research focuses on: the private/public divide, communication breakdown, journeys through un/determined routes and the exploration and exposition of memory.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (majoring in Sculpture) from RMIT University, I have been exhibiting in ARIs, public art spaces and contemporary art spaces throughout Australia. From 2004 to late 2007 I was Coordinator of the only ARI in the Top End of Australia – Darwin Visual Arts Association Inc. (DVAA). I am currently the NT correspondent for Art Notes, Art Monthly Australia Magazine.
Recent projects include: performances with the 24hr Art – NT Centre for Contemporary Art projects Fusion Strength (2005) & interpositions (2007) with artists from Singapore and Melbourne, a performance in Bangun-Abandon Project in KL, Malaysia (2008) and Tidy Town – Paris (2008).
Residencies include: Cité Internationale des Arts Studio, Paris FRANCE thru Art Gallery of NSW (2008); Hill End Artists in Residence Program thru Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, NSW (2008); and Lost Generation Space Artist in Residence Program, Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA (2007-08).
Sustaining a practice in a remote and regional town such as Darwin is demanding. I find it imperative that my artwork travels interstate and overseas in order to receive useful feedback, and to expand and test my own practice. As an artist and arts worker, I have always focused on establishing new contacts outside of Darwin, with the view to future collaborations and exchanges. I am interested in expanding dialogue between regional and remote areas within Australia. Globally I am interested in strengthening connections with artists in the Southern Hemisphere (given my location) and Europe (given my heritage, as a first generation Australian).
