Discussing The Reinheitsgebot

Rein Beer Fest: Nerd Meeting

23 Apr 2016

Today we will sit down with experts, brewers and drinkers to discuss the rules and controversies of the German Reinheitsgebot. What is the history, the interpretations of the law and its impact on beer diversity? How does this law, dating from 1516, still relate to the current craft of beer brewing? The meeting will be moderated by beer historian Bart van Kleef.

Bart van Kleef

Historian and beer expert Bart van Kleef currently works as Export Manager, Brand Manager and Account Manager at Bier&Co. For the past four years he has been selling and promoting Bier&Co's portfolio of about 800 different beers across Europe. While Bier&Co have a special focus on Dutch and American craft beer, Bart has an enormous love for special beers and a strong affinity with independent, and often smaller breweries. At this discussion, Bart will share some of his great knowledge of beer history and provoke a discussion of interpretations and influence of 500 years of Reinheitsgebot.
