Frequent migration is a common characteristic of any squat-based collective, including the Amsterdam Doe-het-zelf Maatschappij (the Amsterdam Do-it-yourself Society, Hornweg 6, www.contrast.org/adm), a group of artists, musicians and photographers who live and work together in a hangar which they also use as a vegan restaurant, open Weds, Fri and Sun, and also as a stage and as studio space. Most of the inhabitants originally lived in the legendary squat the Graansilo. Other former Graansilo inhabitants started another organic vegan restaurant called de Peper, which is now located in OT301 and hosts meals with cabaret, poetry, exhibitions and DJs. See the OT301 website for opening times and reservations.

ADeM also organizes the Robodock Festival, which is held in the late summer and includes the latest in robotics, spectacle theater, industrial installations and music. The best fire spitters and life sized hybrid man/machine structures are nothing out of ordinary during the lengthy festival. Robodock is one of the largest unsubsidized festivals Holland knows, and due to its immense success has moved from the ADeM foundation's own hangar to the more roomy quarters of the NDSM and has spawned many a foreign festival including Burningman (USA), Save the Robots (IE) and Fusion (DE).
