The art manifestation My name is Spinoza, held this summer, offers artists, art and cultural institutions and members of the public a platform for a lively exploration of Spinoza’s thinking and the subjects of his writing. Embedded within a cohesive framework, Spinoza’s ideas articulate concepts such as truth, god, the natural world, law, virtue, freedom, reason, happiness and sadness, and are no less relevant today.

Francisco Camacho, artist and initiator of the Groupmarriage project, will marry two people.

And YOUare cordially invited to the courtyard of SKOR to celebrate this special moment.

Camacho and his two spouses will sign a “Cohabitation” contract (in dutch “samenlevingskontrakt”) formally validated by a notary in Borne (NL) on Friday 31 July. That evening at 5 p.m. we will celebrate the wedding with a formal reception at SKOR in Amsterdam. Later the newly-weds will honeymoon at the Lloyd Hotel in the “communal” bed” made by artist
Joep van Lieshout.

The contract will reveal that a group-marriage is not permitted the same rights as a conventional monogamous relationship or registered partnership After signing the contract, the members of this group marriage hope to litigate to obtain the same rights as married couples or registered partners. Francisco Camacho hopes that this project will start a discussion on the limits of state power related to the freedom to love.

The Group Marriages Initiative is part of the art manifestation My name is Spinoza commissioned by Foundation Spinoza Center Amsterdam and is organized by the Spinoza Society in collaboration with SKOR.
