Games!
The first human-computer interaction came to be in 1951. These days you can play anywhere, everywhere and with anyone - linking your results or avatar to your online social networks in a blink of the eye. But even though we've come a long way since those first computers and graphic interfaces, the link to the old arcade games is still tangible. That's why, for a few months, Mediamatic has been transformed into a contemporary arcade, showcasing vintage arcade video games, every-generation consoles, handhelds, mobile games and interactive installations.
Each period in the history of games gets its own Level. In total we'll complete 5 levels.
Level 1: Sensor Fest
In November 2010 we completed Level 1. Seven new interactive gaming installations were made during the Dev Camp, and presented at Sensor Fest. Take a look at the interactive installation collection.
Level 2: Arcade
Level 2 was all about vintage and contemporary video arcade games. We opened this level on December 18th, 2010. The video arcade machines were put to the test and came out relatively unscathed - something you can't say for all the players. Browse through the complete collection of video arcade machines.
Level 3: Consoles
Level 3 was opened on January 22nd, 2010. This level marked the arrival of the consoles. We selected over twenty different units, all of which you can view here.
Level 4: Handhelds
Level 4 was opened on the 19th of February, 2011. This level added over 200 handhelds to the show. It also dealt with another important aspect of gaming culture: Game Boy (8-bit) music.
Level 5: Mob Fest
The 3-day Mob Fest marked the end of the Arcade exhibition. We talked with over 20 gaming professionals about the state and future of mobile games.
