Montreal was once on track to becoming the financial center of Canada, and its largest and most populated city. That was until squabbling between French and English Canadians provoked separatist terrorists to begin setting off bombs and kidnapping political figures. Fortunately, many anglophones fled to Toronto, and though Montreal is still marked by a French community and an English community that don't always get along, the city has matured into the cultural center of Canada.
