Dr. Ben van den Broek is a scientist and project leader at Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, The Netherlands. He is working in the field of biobased economy. His interest is replacing materials made from fossil oils with materials derived from plants or microorganisms.

Dr. L.A.M. van den Broek did his PhD at the Laboratory of Food Chemistry of Wageningen University, The Netherlands. His work is dedicated to the conversion of biomass into biobased products. Topics he covers are biorefinery, the application of enzymes for modification of polysaccharides and proteins, fermentation, biomass conversion, chitin/chitosan and education (biobased economy). Another area of interest is Microlalgae and the biorefinery thereof. He has published over 60 refereed manuscripts on different topics.
