Bas Belleman (1978) is a poet, translator and storyteller. His debut was Nu nog volop ventilatoren (2003) which was nominated for the  C. Buddingh’-Prize. Belleman studied Culture and Science studies at Maastricht University.

In his latest book De drift van Sneeuwwitje (Snow White’s temper) he retells the well-known fairy tales in lyrical poems, unearthing all kinds of abstruse themes. He also published his translation of Shakespeare’s Dark Lady sonnets, putting forward an unorthodox idea on the nature of this elusive Dark Lady.

Besides his career as a poet he reviewed Dutch prose for newspaper Trouw and poetry for De Groene Amsterdammer and Awater. He wrote columns and essays for Filosofie Magazine and the newspaper De Gelderlander. Furthermore, he takes care of the programming of the Maastricht International Poetry Nights.
