Sacred Water

Museum Night 2017

4 Nov 2017
5 Nov 2017

Female ejaculation is still a thing. Is it normal? And what is it, really? For Secretopia, Mediamatic’s program series on bodily fluids, there’s no need to agree on its composition; it’s a product of your body, so it’s part of it! This Museum Night, we will investigate, under the expert guidance of designer/activist Isabelle Griffioen and director Olivier Jourdain.

Sacred Water

Often, squirting remains a fraught subject. In England and Australia, it’s even banned from porn. In Rwanda, female ejaculation is quite normal. Documentary filmmaker Olivier Jourdain shot a documentary on squirting in Rwanda entitled “Sacred Water”. During Museum Night, Mediamatic will show this film at various intimate locations throughout the entire Biotope. Find a comfortable spot and watch, for as long as you like, the cheerful stories of female sexuality in Rwanda.

Synopsis

Guided by Vestine, an extravagant star of radio nights, the film discovers Rwandan sexuality in search of the water that gushes out the female body and reveals with humour and spontaneity the mystery of female ejaculation. Sacred Water confronts the western viewer with its own intimacy and immerses you into a modern Rwanda rediscovering its heritage in the most secret way: female pleasure.

Motivation

Olivier's intent was to show another view on Rwanda, something that was reuniting and encompassing the whole country. A positive film about a country that has lived through horror twenty years ago. Bluntly, he wanted to portray Rwandans as human beings, having a life, a culture, being actors of their own life. He didn’t want to portray them as people exposed to a harsh reality they cannot control and started the film from a deeply humanistic approach. Olivier also believe the film works as a mirror for each and everyone’s sexuality. It questions more than gives answers and he is very happy with that. He certainly didn’t want to impose a strict point of view on the subject, but rather wanted to bring reflection and self-questioning.
