Oysters are locked in their own enclosing and homemade houses. Once they settle, that's it, they never move again. A sad thing according to artist Zeger Reyers. For his exhibition 'O' Tristana he opened up hundreds of oysters and made the inside visible and tangible. The sculptures were exhibited in the Mediamatic restaurant.

In nature, beauty is often related to reproduction. Oysters however, do not have to be beautiful. They reproduce by releasing large amounts of seeds and egg cells in the water. By making casts of the oysters, Zeger makes the invisible oyster visible.

In Tristana, a film by Luis Bunuel from 1970, a young Catharine Deneuve plays the main role. After a novel by Benito Perez Galdos, Tristana lives in an imprisoned freedom. After the death of her parents, she is taken care of by her uncle, with whom she is forced to marry. In her mind she breaks out of the limitations of her life. For example, she asks her environment to always choose the best or most beautiful option from a series of similar objects.

No oyster is the same. The molluscs are too weak to keep shape after they are opened. The frayed outer edge of the creature, is the only part of the oyster that is visible when the oyster is open. In addition to the many forms of fractions, these edges have the most variations in color.
