With the famous ballet La Sylphide as an inspiration, Martin Butler creates a fairy-themed program for Lightness week 8. With brand new works by artist Gautier Pelegrin, Floris Didden, Daan Colijn, Cedric Laquieze and Nicole Beutler. A musical journey on the representation of the fairy theme in harp music by Maxilimilian Ehrhard and Victoria Davies. And a mesmerizing "Fairies for Freedom" end party at MidsummersNight.

Fairies for Freedom. A Midsummernight's charity party for the Benefits of Allout. With dj's, performances, art and a fashion auction. Fighting darkness and celebrating lightness on the longest day with love, play and freedom.

With a special 'One Woman Musical' by Aynouk Tan at 21:00.

Floris Didden

Floris Didden is the founder of Karakter, the twice emmy award winning gaming visual studio, best known for their visual design works for the television series Game of Thrones. He invites you to enter a fairy realm that normally lies unseen between the folds of everyday reality. The set will be created using digital and traditional painting techniques, drawing inspiration from the work of enigmatic fantasy artists such as Alan Lee and Dave McKean. Using the classic principles of Trompe-l'œil, forced perspective, you will be able to peer in to and even enter this world between worlds.

Gautier Pellegrin

Gautier Pellegrin is a Milan based Photographer focusing mainly on fashion. After a career in the music industry in New York City Pellegrin moved to Milan to change careers and become a photographer. His work has been published in numerous magazines on both sides of the Atlantic.

Pellegrin has created a series of newly commissioned photographic works called "Leda and the Swan" loosely inspired by the myth of Leda, depicting the progressive transformation of Leda into an animal, and her eventual death. .

Cedric Laquieze

Cedric Laquieze is a mixed media sculptor inspired by fairy tales folklore mythology and history. His use of organic materials translates fairy tale creatures into the context of the real world. One could call his work with diverse insects skeletons and or plants strive towards character based "theatrical" sculptures that tell a story on their own through their simplicity and elegance.

Daan Colijn

Daan Colijn is a Dutch director who builds theatrical installations that melt live performance with digital media. With a thin surrealistic layer he makes the audience step into a world that combine reality with anything that’s possible.

His “caged elves” are part of the performance “Louter Kabouter” where a driven biologist uses drastic measures to reveal the natural habitat of leprechauns.

Nicole Beutler

Dutch/German choreographer Nicole Beutler (NB projects), will show the video registration of her reinterpretation of the ballet, Les Sylphides.

Lightness

In an age where everyone is affected by the weight of society, the overbearing fears of the economy and the heavy hand of government, 'lightness' is the way forward. Let go of the material and celebrate the ethereal with 11 weeks of 'lightness'. Each week Mediamatic invites a new artist to question the meaning of 'lightness'.
