Speakers

We present our guest speakers for the coming edition of Ignite.

Ugly Belgian Houses

"Because most Belgian houses are ugly. Even mine" says Ugly-Belgian-Houses blogger Hannes Coudenys. The ugliness he found in the Belgian streets inspired him to start a blog collecting the weirdest, unpractical, awkward architectural designs. The best examples are now published in Hannes' first book.

Jinhyun Jeon

Designer Jinhyun Jeon holds an interest in joint perception, which happens when one of our senses carries the ability of other senses. How do we see things and how can design practice change our habits? For her graduation project 'Synesthetic Sensorial Stimuli' Jeon experiments with different kinds of table ware. What if utensils not only bring food to our mouth, but form an extension of the body which stimulate our senses?

Seán Hannan

Through his work as an artist Seán Hannan interrogates contemporary (internet) tales and looks for their potential in storytelling and mythology. Was 9/11 an inside job? Did aliens from the Zeta Reticuli star system genetically manipulated our DNA? With alternate realities that Seán fuses with common-beliefs he creates a playing field for the many faces of truth.

Chloé Rutzerveld

Chloé Rutzerveld is raised in the Burgundian Limburg, which might be the reason of her passion for food. As a student at the Technical University of Eindhoven, she developed as a designer who combines aspects of food, the human body, life sciences, culture and ethics within a form of critical design.

New Sculpture Department

The New Sculpture Department was founded by Kees Boevé and Lorenzo Quintanilla, both studied at the ceramics department of de Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Not because of their love of the medium, but because of the lack of a sculpture department. After a while they decided to start their own department, which would combine craftsmanship, concept, the love for materials and sculpture. After graduating, the New Sculpture Department changed into a sculpture collective.

Frebble

There are many ways to see and hear your loved ones through the power of the internet, but often the tactile element is missing. Frebble is going to change that. This accessory allows you to hold hands with someone at a distance: when you squeeze it, the other person feels your squeeze.

With the Frebble 1, children can hold hands at a distance with their friends, parents and grandparents.

Sanja Najdovska

After writing her thesis on the impact of technology on social behavior, Sanja Najdovska continued her research with the interior design project In Dependence. In Dependence is a collection of three classic Thonet chairs that provoke us to start a dialog about our relationship with smart phones and how they have affected our environment. It showcases the absurdity and at the same time how we got accustomed to this social habit.

Dilemma op Dinsdag

Dilemma op Dinsdag, or in English Dilemma on Tuesday, is a website and Facebook page where every Tuesday a new dilemma is posted. You can participate via social media and there's only one rule: you have to choose. For example: Every day wet socks or every day a frikandel for breakfast? You have a robot butler of you remember everything you read.
