Slum Sessions #19

about the Sunday program

9 Apr 2013

The first part of the Freezing Favela, the building of the actual spaces, is almost finished. We'll be open to our visitors every Sunday, organising nice food, workshops and fun. This Tuesday we will finish our Sunday Favela party calendar. How can you make sure your spot is open, safe and attractive when you're not there? What are our opening hours? Let's talk about that today. Over soup, of course.

Freezing Favela

Freezing Favela is a temporary city at Mediamatic Fabriek. The Fabriek is situated in the Van Gendthallen on Oostenburg, Amsterdam. The space is big, unheated, and the roof leaks. Designers, cooks and other makers have been given the possibility to claim part of this space as their own. They work autonomously from their workshop- or project space, but like in any other community, materials, space, and functions have to be shared. Favela citizens are making tosti's from scratch, paper from cow dung, furniture from cardboard, and food from our aquaponics farm. They give workshops, organize get-togethers, and serve food.
