Catwalk Photography Tips
Flash: You can use a fill flash only and please do not loose the atmosphere
of the stage. Handheld flash should be 50 cm away from the camera and up to the level of the models, use tripod or mono and have an assitant.

Exposure: You should give a + 1/3 compensation for bright costumes and
+2/3 compensation for dark costumes.

White Balance: Use the Bulb sign from the white balance options do not use the AWB (Auto white Balance) and If you have the chance use the white paper technique to measure the temperature of the light or even the 18% grey card.

Timing: In photography timing is so important, you should take care of the motion of both hands and legs. Stretched legs and arms are beautiful unless the model is posing. The toughest part is focusing properly and still maintaining the model in frame without cutting off her feet. Use center weighted auto focus, and try to target the eyes, and readjust with focus lock, but you have to be quick!

Position: Finally, the runway will probably be elevated several feet. So, the closer you are to the model, the more accentuated that difference in elevation will be in your image. That's a good reason to stand back.

Posing: It is better to take a full length shot and 2/3 of the body in another shot. You would need 10 shots to get 2 decent shots. Check out if there are fixed posing spots and place a mark.
