Street Improv Amsterdam

To all improv performers, supporters, players and mischief makers!

As one of the creative partners for the 5th May Liberation Day activities in Amsterdam, we have the task of planning and undertaking a series of events to commemorate this national day. Our goal is to run a range of creative non-mainstream experiences that will increase awareness in the local populace about what Liberation Day means for them and to reinforce the themes of liberation and freedom.

With this in mind, we have a number of smaller events planned for the next several weeks in the run-up to the main activities set for 5th May.

Mass street improv stunt
One of these events will be a mass street improv stunt planned for the afternoon of Saturday 25th April. We are fortunate to have Alex Scordelis from the New York based group “Improv Everywhere” helping us out as an advisor (he’s in town for a presentation on his street improv experiences, which may also be of interest to you). We are just finalising the performance, but rest assured it will involve all that’s typical of classic street improv stunts; fun, spontaneity and plenty of action to make others wonder “what the heck is going on”!

150 volunteers
For the event we’ll need at least 150 volunteers and this is where you can help us… we want you to be involved! Absolutely everyone is welcome and you don’t need any previous experience in street improv or acting or really anything else, just a sense of fun and the ability to follow a few simple directions. You won’t need to do much, just turn up and have fun with us. We’ll meet somewhere first to tell you how the performance will work out and then we’ll go and make the magic happen. So here are the details:

Where, when
When: Saturday 25th April
Time: To be confirmed, but likely early afternoon
Location: Downtown Amsterdam
Duration: To be confirmed, but approx. 1 hour long
To bring: Yourself and any friends/family/colleagues/random-strangers that you can bring along – the more the merrier!
