Múm meets Xenakis

musical confrontation

11 Jun 2005

Conducter Peter Eötvös leads the Radio Kamerorkest in works by Iannis Xenakis and Notturno by Helmut Lachenmann, as the icelandic múm contrasts the harsh compositions with their fragile electronica.

Iannis Xenakis was originally an engineer, and used his strict mathematical background as a basis for his compositions. He would compose according to algorithmic structures, and was one of the pioneers in image-sound translation.

Múm is a quartet from Iceland. Some of the original members initially composed hardcore on an amiga, but now they make fragile compositions with angelic singing.

Imagery will be provided by Visual Kitchen, one of last year's Visual Sensations finalists.
