The MPCVA is an integral part of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai. The NCPA, the premier private cultural institution of India, is dedicated to the preservation and development of classical, traditional, and contemporary music, dance, and theatre. The MPCVA, with its commitment to the visual arts, adds a vital dimension to the NCPA.

The MPCVA is committed to developing a deeper discourse in the arts and to foster a spirit of inquiry and introspection both in the art world of India and amongst the general public. It also seeks to connect the arts with one another and with related fields in new and creative ways. It attempts to promote cross-cultural exchanges internationally as well as events specific to the city of Mumbai.

Over the years, the MPCVA’s numerous activities have become an important part of the city’s cultural calendar. It organizes lectures, panel discussions, audio-visual presentations, films, seminars, workshops, and international conferences. It also collaborates with a number of other organizations, especially in the city, but also occasionally abroad.

The Center has emerged as one of the primary national platforms to explore conceptually the perspectives, forms, ideas, processes, and materials central to the visual arts.
