12th International Arts and Digital Cultures Festival of Gran Canaria

anaria. It is now one of the most representative festivals of its kind in Spain, and has become established both in terms of its programming and in relation to the level of participation (in the last edition over 400 works from 35 countries were received for competition).

The directing of the festival by Claudia Giannetti for the current edition provides the XII CanariasMediafest with one of its most ambitious proposals. The festival is continuing with its line of uniting quality, accuracy and innovation as the principles which articulate its aesthetic coordinates. It continues to provide the necessary forum for the recognition of artists and the circulation of their work, as well as a broad overview of artistic tendencies and possibilities so that the public may participate in and enjoy them.

There are many new elements, including new categories in the competition section such as audiovisuals for mobile screens, and installations and projects, in addition to the categories already established such as video art, animation and artistic documentary. The thought-provoking thematic proposal establishes cohesion among the festival activities and provides the essential structure of the proposal for the International Symposium and the exhibitions: The Capricious Reason of the 21st Century (The avatars of the post-industrial information society). Starting from an analysis of the influences of technologies and the media in the process of forming these new "caprices" of the 21st century, there will be a reflection on the features, conditions and manifestations that constitute contemporary capricious reason. In addition to the publication of the festival catalogue, a book will be published with contributions from internationally renowned authors and thinkers in relation to the theme proposed.

Among the numerous exhibitions, the festival has programmed a tribute to the recently deceased Canary Islands artist Pedro Garhel. The event will be completed by a wide-ranging parallel programme including concerts, installations, workshops with international speakers, and presentations by artists.
