CityHub: The Social Hotel

Social hotel with RFID Facebook connect

CityHub is a unique new hotel concept. By using stackable L-shaped cabins (‘hubs’) two hotelrooms can be built in an area of only eight square meters. In July 2012, the pilot of CityHub in Amsterdam started: CityHub Bèta. Including the Mediamatic ikCam.

CityHub is an initiative by Sem Schuurkes and Pieter van Tilburg. “CityHub is for visitors who don’t have the budget for an expensive hotel, but also don’t want to stay in a hostel having no privacy. Our hubs accommodate two persons and are equipped with a large comfortable bed, iPod docking system, free Wi-fi and mood-lighting.”

The communal Social Room features an interactive wall. The wall is used as a guestbook and contains a screen which shows recent tweets about CityHub. It also has a built-in ikCam. “With the ikCam visitors can show their friends at home what they're up to and they can collect their CityHub friends online. Because the ikCam pictures are directly posted to our visitors' Facebook walls, all of their friends are automatically introduced to CityHub!”
