The Press Innovation Convention was held in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam on May 22, 2012. This year's theme was 'lef' (guts). The convention was organized by The Netherlands Press Fund. The program consisted, among others, of presentations by Dagan Cohen (Upload Cinema), Pim Betist (Sellaband), Thomas Loudon (VJ Movement) and Joshua Benton (Nobody Journalism Lab).

Speakers debated on the future of journalism and projects which stimulate innovation and guts in journalism. They discussed news games and entrepreneurial journalism, but also the possibilities to contribute to research on journalism, and other projects through crowdfunding.

Upon entering visitors received a special press innovation Lef! pass. With this pass they were able to check in at the check-in column, which lit up with every check in. In addition, there was a Backchannel; on these screens relevant tweets about the Congress could be followed live by the visitors.
