An evening with electronic and Ultra sounds
Curated by Truus de Groot and Oscar Smit

With
- Plus Instruments
- deNeuve (plays Det Wiehl)
- Das Ding (Minimal Wave Records)

An exiting evening with three acts which go back to the Dutch Ultra-scene of the eighties but managed to keep their profile high in the 21st century. Plus Instruments is the vehicle of Truus de Groot. Since long she is specialized in (analog) electronics and the Cracklebox. She will invite a few friends to play with her. deNeuve are Mark and André from Amsterdam. They were once in the notorious band Tox Modell. Nowadays they play analog guitar music/noise with the help of a reel taperecorder. Under the banner of Det Wiehl they make instrumental music for ballets. Tonight is their premiere as deNeuve and will they re-interprete compositions of Det Wiehl. An intriguing prospect. Das Ding used to release his analog wave on cassettes. Nowadays his electronic music is called minimal or dark wave and is released on the famous American label Minimal Wave Music. This will be a rare appearance of Das Ding in Amsterdam.

PLUS INSTRUMENTS (1979 – 2013)
Minimal Electronica Dance with Truus de Groot and Jimmy Virani (FR)

Truus

Plus Instruments’ existence spans over the last 3 decades. Established in 1978 by Truus de Groot in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. After concentrating on her Neo Exotica for a good decade, Truus burst back on the Minimal Dance club scene again in 2011 with her release of the album “Dance with Me”. The most recent Album “Trancesonics” was released in June, in the USA on Truus’ own Dewclaw Ditties label. An exclusive Dutch release on Blowpipe is scheduled for August 30th.

This time Truus teams up with Jimmy Virani on Theremin again. See how wild and hardcore a Theremin can be!! A perfect fit with Truus’ own designed apparatus based on the legendary Crackle Synthesizer. Expect a very special evening at STEIM on September 5th.

DAS DING
‘I started recording in 1981, with a lot of borrowed equipment. It was fun to do, and everyone was doing music, so me and my friend Johan started a cassette label. We made some tapes, did some gigs, but things moved on. In 2007, 433rpm, of the exhaustive music blog ‘No Longer Forgotten Music’, posted some of my old Das Ding tapes, and Veronica Vasicka, who runs the New York based ‘Minimal Wave’ label and specializes in reissues of 80s synth-wave, contacted me to propose the release of a Das Ding album. Old tapes were uncovered and Minimal Wave released a remastered version of ‘HSTA’ and other tracks in 2010. A wave of renewed interest followed the record’s release and soon people were in touch to propose live shows. Twenty years later, and after some deliberation, Das Ding was reincarnated under its old moniker but now with a revised line-up and a working set-up that reflected inevitable technological change. Suddenly Das Ding was a ‘Dutch electro-pioneer’ and the apparent pinnacle of ‘Minimal Wave’.
