On Ascension Day 2014, we’ll take a stand, literally. Come to Mediamatic for a course to learn to really stand. After these preparations, Hubbub, a game-design bureau hailing from Utrecht and Berlin, will launch their newest app ‘Standing’. The application challenges playful activism and protest. Take a stand for anything important that’s on your mind and people from different parts of the world will join you to do the same. At the same time we can see all the standing-activity with the help of a Tactical Display made possible by Hubbub.

This ‘stand-in’ is a reflection on the events in Turkey in the summer of 2013, but as an contemporary act, also related to the famous sit-ins in the Seventies. ‘Take a Stand’ is part of the Lightness events of Mediamatic: eleven weeks with eleven eleven exhibitions and artists. During the ‘stand-in’ Mediamatic is full of modern ex-votos, drawings and texts , and aggregated by artist Richtje Reinsma, dedicated to higher powers , to bring happiness to enforce that visitors can make themselves

To conclude the evening full of standing and ex-voto’s, writer and designer Dirk Vis, will hand out pamphlets to evoke the autonomous use of the ‘Take a Stand’ app.
