Mycelium masterclass by Phil Ross

Thursday 18th, 14:00 to 17:30

Phil Ross (US) is one of the leading bio-artists of this moment. Especially for Bio-me, Phil is coming over to share his extensive knowledge and experience on working, designing and making art with mushrooms and mycelium. In this masterclass you will learn not only about reishi and mycotecture but also about open mycotectural research, design and collaboration. Phil will also be part of the Biotalk later on that evening.

Masterclass

There is a growing interest in using mycelium as a material for practical and aesthetic applications. Also there's a partnering need for clear and open information about culturing methodologies, testing strategies, and the characterization and standardization of these hybrid fungal composites.

In this special session Phil Ross will share his greater fungal knowledge, with a main focus on the Ganoderma mushroom. He will also talk about how fungal materials might move into widespread adoption through accelerated open research and information sharing. Of course he will also bring some new materials samples and answer any question you have regarding these topics.

Phil Ross

American artist Phil Ross has a strong interest in bio-engineering and mycology; he uses living organisms as the inspiration and means by which he makes his work. Through the design and creation of highly controlled environments, he manipulates, nurtures and transforms a variety of living species into sculpture.
