The primary role of fungus in an ecosystem is to decompose organic matter. But mycelium has tremendous other potential. The Oyster Mushroom for instance can be used to clean up contaminants in the environment and can function as a sort of biological filter. We offer you the chance to follow into the footsteps of designers like Maurizio Montalti and Katharina Unger and start working with mycelium yourself. In this introductory workshop you will learn the basics of cultivating mushrooms and mycelium at home.
Take a look at this video by Phill Ross to see mycelium in it's full potential.
This workshop is recommended for all designers, farmers, artist and chefs who are interested in taking their first steps of mushroom cultivation at home. You will get a short explanation on the characteristics of mycelium and see some examples of recent material developments. After which you will go into the cleanroom to inoculate your first batch of oyster mushrooms.
