Workshop:

Processing Workshop

Learn the basics of Processing in one day!

18 Oct 2013

Processing is a programming language, development environment, and online community. Since 2001, Processing has promoted software literacy within the visual arts and visual literacy within technology. Initially created to serve as a software sketchbook and to teach computer programming fundamentals within a visual context, Processing evolved into a development tool for professionals. Today, there are tens of thousands of students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists who use Processing for learning, prototyping, and production.

Introduction to programming with Processing

Computation is for everyone. It’s for artists, musicians, biologists, doctors, dancers, animators, bankers, photographers, librarians, fashion designers, architects, psychologists, journalists, and writers, just to name a few.

This workshop will teach you the basics of computer programming. We'll start with the fundamentals of computer graphics (pixels, digital color, and coordinate systems) and focus on the core concepts of computation (variables, conditionals, iteration, functions, and objects). In addition, we'll touch on some more advanced techniques such as text parsing, image processing, networking, and computer vision.

Some experience with C or C++ (or different programming languages) will come in handy but is not mandatory (although some affinity with software and technology in general is recommended).

The trainer

Emmanuel Flores Elías is an app developer living in Amsterdam. He's currently focused on developing native and web applications for mobile devices. Besides his activities as designer and developer he has worked as ‘creative coder’ and workshop leader for different universities and institutions in China, Belgium, Mexico, Italy and the Netherlands. Specialties: User Experience Design, Concept Development, iOS SDK, Objective-C, Mobile Web Technologies (HTML+CSS+JS), Processing, OpenGL.

Software and laptop

Please bring your laptop to do your coding. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of Processing.
