Mycelium Pigeon Towers

New pigeon towers emerge as old ones slowly collapse into fertile soil at the Biotoop. These structures are an ongoing experiment to build with living mycelium waste from oyster mushroom farms. Through different shapes, and building structures, we see how the material responds, and if we can build a comfortable living space for the pigeons of Amsterdam. The project investigates questions such as: Can we build structures to house feral pigeons from the city? Is it possible to build with material that continues to live after the structure is completed? What is the best design to build a tower with waste mycelium? And how long does it take for the bricks to grow together, and when does the towerstart to collapse? How do the seasons influence the towers?

Make sure to have a look at the latest ones!
