Meet a Maker

At Mediamatic, we are lucky to be inspired by the many artists who work and stay with us for exhibitions, residencies and workshops on a daily basis.

We are welcoming you to Mediamatic to meet artists and be inspired as well!

Meet-a-maker is a 30 min session to have a one-on-one talk with artists currently working at Mediamatic.

Do you want to learn more about an artist's works, from the artists themselves? Do you want to talk about your project with an artist whose work was an inspiration of yours? Come meet and talk with the artist.

Who is this for?

Are you looking for fresh insight on your artistic research? Do you need to talk through a concept, or receive some honest advice on your project? Close to finishing your finals at art academy? Do you need advice on how to work with textile structures? The conversations with Margherita are meant for anyone who has a special interest in how objects and materials are in relation with our bodies and senses, and how these relations create a secondary effect on human behaviour. In a society that relies mainly on sight, Margherita Soldati wants to make possible to ‘see’ with other sense by creating intimate, personal and interactive relations between her works and the visitors.?

During the session, you will have a 30-minute consultation with Margherita to discuss anything relating to your work: any ideas you may have, or challenges you may be facing. You can expect an honest, invigorating conversation, which leaves you with plenty of food for thought.

About the artist

Margherita Soldati

Margherita (IT/NL, 1991) is an artist with a strong curiosity for tactile perception at the intersection of art and sensory well-being. She researches and translates stories and emotions through unconventional ways of using materials - creating three-dimensional patterns and surfaces. In a society that relies mainly on sight, she wants to make it possible to ‘see’ with other senses: in her practice, tactility is the medium through which she communicates and in her works, she often explores the tactile perception to create a more intimate and interactive relationship between the space, the work and the visitors.

Her artistic practice is based in Amsterdam where she co-founded in 2017 Absurd Beings, a female curatorial collective.

Currently, Margherita is working on two topics: burnout, creating an allegorical work about the process of repairing and healing by using recovered textiles to repair or transform old knitwear; allergies, researching by self-testing, the role that microorganisms such as bacteria play in allergies and therefore in our immune system.

Margherita's work "the Skin is the Extension of the Brain" is currently displayed at Mediamatic.
