What will you do
Renske will be guiding a session about changing the spaces we live in. We will visit the work by the artist at Mediamatic, with Renske guiding you through it. Afterwards, we will talk about the work and how it felt.
A session to have a one-on-more talk with an artist currently working at Mediamatic. We are lucky to be inspired by the many artists who work and stay with us for exhibitions, residencies and workshops. We welcome you to meet them and be inspired as well!
The installation
The installation "Ruimte voor kijken" prompts us to pause and consider our daily viewing behaviour. From the sidelines, people in the space become part of the artwork, while from inside the installation, the environment becomes a subject for observation. Additionally, trough a sensory focused design of the space, Renske invites visitors not only to look at others but also to pay attention to their own experiences of the space.
Tiemersma aims to challenge the unwritten societal rules shaped around the act of looking, prompting us to contemplate our daily viewing behavior. An adaptation of her graduation work Ruimte voor Kijken will be installed at Mediamatic from April 28th. This installation belongs in the Sanctuary for Sensory Participation program.
Renske Tiemersma
Renske Tiemersma is a visual artist and neurodiverse maker who graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) in 2024.
Renske loves touching, caressing. For as long as she can remember, she has been running her fingers along fences, leaves, chairs, people. Everything she can touch, she has to feel. But sound is often very tiring, and smell can be incredibly overwhelming. She has learned that this craving and simultaneous aversion to sensory stimuli has to do with her neurodiversity. With her art, she want to give people the opportunity to pay attention to their sensory experiences. Texture, weight, space, light, facial expressions and pressure on the body are all important considerations and themes.
