Becoming Part of the Harbour

with Mariko Hori

Is there a place that could have preserved fragments of the city throughout its history?

Have you ever wondered what the harbour underwater smells like?

Under the harbour brings forth certain scents, feelings, or textures that can mix with our imaginations and memories as integral parts of history. Guided by artist Mariko Hori, you can come experience the Oosterdok in a new light.

Aligning with the monastery’s principles of introspection, rituals, and community, this project introduces a series of artistic rituals designed to honour and appreciate the harbour water and its intricate ecosystem. By engaging participants in sensory experiences and physical interaction with the water, the project fosters a deeper connection between individuals and the environment.
