Haptic Lab Workshop:

Detailed Talks

with Amber van Gastel

18 Feb 2026

What is it like to be you?

How do you see the world differently from someone else?

In this workshop you will learn a different way of communicating. A way that does not start with finding the right words, but with images, objects and associations.

Using the Detailed Talks card set, you are invited to slow down and explore how you experience the world. By responding to visual prompts first, you discover how meaning can emerge through intuition, metaphor and personal stories. This creates space for conversations that feel more open, layered and human.

You will experience how people can look at the same image or question and connect to it in completely different ways. By sharing these associations, you learn to listen beyond language and to recognise multiple perspectives without needing to resolve them.

No prior knowledge about autism or neurodiversity is required. The workshop is about learning to communicate differently, together.

Amber van Gastel

Amber van Gastel is a neurodivergent designer, storyteller and researcher. After receiving a late autism and adhd diagnosis, she became deeply interested in how people communicate inner experience and where language can fall short. Her graduation project led to the creation of the Detailed Talks cards, a conversation tool that invites people to speak through images, associations and stories before turning to words.

Amber’s work combines lived experience, research and design to create gentle tools for connection. She believes that understanding begins when we allow multiple ways of thinking and being to exist next to each other.
