What will you do

In this workshop, artist and researcher Anđela Zora Brnas invites participants to explore the Mediamatic ecosystem through more-than-human* imagination, movement, sensing, site research and collective mapping.

We begin with a short introduction to the workshop and Anđela’s practice, followed by a guided movement and sensing exercise. This first part focuses on noticing both our inner bodily ecosystem and the surrounding ecosystem of Mediamatic.

From there, we will look at an example of a willow ecosystem map and the living willow dome at the Mediamatic Biotoop. This will introduce mapping as a way to notice relationships between species, habitats, human activities and crafts.

The main part of the workshop takes place through site exploration. Participants will use different ways of noticing and recording: movement, drawing, collecting samples, writing, sound recording and close observation. Together, we will bring these findings into a collective map.

Through this shared mapping process, we will trace connections within the site and reflect on our possible caring roles within the ecosystem.

This workshop is the start of an ongoing multispecies research and mapping project at Mediamatic, with opportunities to stay involved as it develops through the residency.

No experience needed. Bring curious mindset, your beautiful earthly weirdness, willingness to explore, sense, move and question.

* more-than-human = coined by eco-philosopher David Abram, is an eco-philosophical concept that challenges human exceptionalism. It refers to the holistic, shared world we inhabit, recognizing that the human experience is inextricably embedded within—and dependent upon—the wider web of earthly life, encompassing all animate and inanimate entities.
