Feira dos de São Cristovão

Art Market in Rio

Started more than 50 years ago by migrant workers, this market is now an explosion of music, dancing, food, art and produce from northeastern Brazil that attracts 60,000 people each weekend. On Saturday the carnival atmosphere really gets going after midnight, with music and dancing (mostly the traditional forro) that can continue until daylight. The market winds down after lunch on Sunday, usually finishing at about 4 pm. Open Tuesday-Thursday 10 am-4 pm, Friday from 10 am, Saturday all day, Sunday until 10 pm. Campo de Sao Cristovao, Zona Norte, Rio de Janeiro.
