Workshop:

Grow your own magic mushrooms

Museum Night Workshop

5 Nov 2011

During this workshop more than a dozen people made their own magic mushroom growing kit. Tessel Kokopelli explained the steps calmly and clearly, and after a few hours everyone had made a substrate jar that they took home with them.

Magic mushrooms

You can make the substrate for growing magic mushrooms at home with simple and affordable materials and equipment. In this workshop you'll learn how to infect your rice-flour based substrate mixture with the spores of the Psilocybe mushroom. At the end of the evening you'll take home a bag / jar with the mixture. After approximately 2 to 4 weeks, the magic mushrooms will appear. If you want to know more about preparing and growing magic mushrooms, visit Mushplanet's website.

Isn't that illegal?

Nope! During (the very public) Museum Night we prepared the rice flour based substrate, and injected it with the spores of magic mushrooms. It is the fruit body (the edible part of the mushroom) that's illegal; the spores aren't. The fruit bodies won't appear until weeks after the workshop. And in the privacy of your own home.

More information

Workshop tickets were € 25, including the use of all the materials. People were able to harvest mushrooms 2 or 3 times from this single mixture. The workshop took about 2 hours, and started at 20:00. If you have any questions, please contact Deborah Meibergen.
