Miriam Overlach

Miriam Overlach, harpist, is a musical adventurer who is equally concerned with sound interpretations of traditional works as well as the innovation of performance practices and the transgression of musical boundaries. She enjoys to perform as a soloist, chamber musician and improviser as well as with orchestras and ensembles. Performance venues include the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the NDR in Hannover, the Musikverein Bamberg (broadcasted live via the Bayrischer Rundfunk), festival Musikalischer Sommer in Ostfriesland and festival Peter de Grote. She regularly works as a substitute for the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Chamber Philharmonic, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra (the Dutch opera orchestra) and ensembles for contemporary music such as Asko/Schönberg and Ensemble Modern Frankfurt.

Her interest in contemporary developments in classical music has resulted in a membership in several initiatives. With her group ‘Radio Kootwijk Live’ Miriam organizes and participates in two concert series: one at Radio Kootwijk, an old radio station built in the beginning of the last century, and one in the classical concert venue Vredenburg in Utrecht. Miriam frequently collaborates with young and upcoming contemporary composers. Inspired by these productions she has also developed a distinctive style of improvisation which incorporates material from contemporary music as well as performative elements.

Miriam graduated cum laude from the Amsterdam Conservatory where she studied with Prof. Erika Waardenburg.
